Jom is looking for a part-time technical lead (one-day/week).
Job description
The technical lead is responsible for ensuring that Jom’s digital infrastructure—website, membership systems, analytics, and communications tools—runs smoothly, reliably, and in service of our broader mission. Technology is central to how Jom reaches readers, grows our membership base, and builds a publication that is independent, trustworthy, and community-owned. This role ensures that our systems are thoughtfully designed, well integrated, and capable of scaling with the organisation.
More broadly, you will play a vital role in helping Jom evolve its offering through product improvements, better data visibility, and clear technical recommendations. You will act as the bridge between editorial, design, marketing, and the engineering contractors we work with. Your contributions will help us better understand our readers, improve retention, and ensure the organisation can grow sustainably.
Given that Jom is still a start-up, all employees are expected to collaborate on projects both familiar and novel, filling in for each other wherever necessary. You will have the opportunity to shape our technical policies, vendor selection, analytics frameworks, and long-term infrastructure strategy as we collectively build our employee-owned organisation.
This is a one-day-a-week, part-time position. You can be based remotely. This role is not public-facing, but you will collaborate closely with team members across editorial, research, design, and operations.
Those with full-time jobs that allow them space to work on weeknights/weekends are encouraged to apply. Compensation will include cash, stock options, and performance-linked incentives.

- Ensure data flows cleanly between systems and that user information is accurate and secure.
- Support editorial and marketing teams with technical needs (e.g., templates, landing pages, member flows).
- Document processes, maintain Jom’s technical roadmap, and ensure continuity as the organisation grows.
Requirements
- Experience managing or implementing digital infrastructure for a content-driven or subscription-based organisation.
- Familiarity with modern publishing platforms (e.g., Ghost, WordPress), email systems, analytics tools, and CRM solutions.
- Strong ability to translate business needs into technical strategy.Initiative, attention to detail, and comfort working in a fast-moving, ambiguous, early-stage environment.
- A willingness to learn new systems and help shape Jom’s technical direction.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical ideas to non-technical teammates.
- Self-starter who can work across the organisation and fill in gaps where necessary.
- Is occasionally in Singapore, at least, and has work authorisation here.
