Why is Jomfest on a weekday?
Many conferences in Singapore take place on weekdays, part of the rhythm of professional life. We similarly hope that artists, other “cultural workers”, academics, policy wonks, and anybody whose day job depends on understanding Singapore’s socio-cultural and policy environment looks at Jomfest as a part of their practice, not something ancillary to it. We hope that enlightened organisations give their workers time off for Jomfest, and that others who can take leave do so. It’s our first Jomfest, and we hope that over time it simply becomes an annual event on your calendar.
Are there single-panel tickets if I only want to attend one panel?
No. We are only selling tickets for the entire programme. We understand that many of you, such as fans of Teo You Yenn or UK Shyam, may have your favourite sessions. But we hope that you stay for the half-day, or as long as you can. Jom is what’s known as a general interest magazine in media parlance: arts, culture, earth, politics, business, tech, and more. You might come for a Parliament update, but then you stumble upon an obituary of an artist you hadn’t known about. Similarly, we’ve designed Jomfest in a holistic way, curating and platforming people we love from a range of fields, and we hope you come eager for serendipity with people and thoughts.
I’m a Jom subscriber, where do I get the discount code?
Check your e-mail for the code. If you can’t find it, e-mail sales@jom.media.
Can I enter halfway? Can I leave halfway?
Yes, of course. We’re Jom, not the presidential council. We’re hoping for a chill but intellectually engaged vibe. Relax, do your thing, come and go as you want. And through it all, most importantly, respect your fellow Jomrades. (See next question.)
What are Jomfest’s principles?
Jom commits to make our events safe, open, critical and welcoming spaces for all. No forms of oppression, othering, marginalisation, and discrimination are accepted. Racism, xenophobia, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ageism, body shaming, etc are not accepted.
Please be kind and respectful of others while visiting, speaking, or otherwise occupying the space. Look after one other. Please be responsible and accountable for your actions. Please be aware of your privileges and make space for others.
Contact Jom’s staff immediately if you experience or witness behaviour that violates someone physically or emotionally.
How do I get entry to Jomfest?
At the registration table, you’ll get one wristband per ticket. You’ll need it to enter the auditorium.
I’ve bought my ticket but I can no longer make it for the event. Can I transfer my ticket to another person?
Yes. Please e-mail us at sales@jom.media with the transferee’s details.
The conference is fully subscribed. Do you accept walk-ins or waitlists?
No.
Will there be food?
We won’t be serving full meals. But our food sponsor, Shahi Maharani, a North Indian restaurant, will be providing two teatime snacks, one vegetarian and one (halal) meat.
Will there be drinks?
There’ll be water, tea, and wine.
Will you have disability access?
Asian Civilisations Museum is housed in a historic building with two accessible entrances (Front Entrance and River Entrance) with ramps that will lead you to the Visitor Services counter at the Museum Lobby. To go to the basement, take the lift near the spiral staircase on Level 1. See ACM’s Accessibility & Services page for more information.
Will you be publishing the panel discussions online?
We hope to film and publish them in the month after Jomfest, but this isn’t confirmed.
